Privacy policy

The short version: we ask for an email address, and only if you want the letter. Nothing else is collected, and nothing is sold.

What we collect

Your email address, if you give it to us. The sign-up form for the letter is the only place this site asks for anything. We store the address, the date you signed up and which page you signed up from. That is the whole record.

We do not ask for your name, and there is nowhere on this site to create an account, because there are no accounts.

What we do not collect

There is no analytics on this site. No Google Analytics, no tag manager, no advertising pixel, no session recording, no fingerprinting and no third-party script of any kind. We cannot tell you how many people read a given piece, because we do not measure it.

The typefaces are served from this site rather than from Google Fonts, so reading a page does not tell Google that you did.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies. That is why there is no cookie banner — there is nothing to consent to.

One thing is stored in your browser: when you sign up to the letter, the site leaves a note to itself so that it stops showing you the sign-up form. It records only that this browser signed up and whether the address was confirmed. It holds no email address, it is never sent anywhere, and clearing your browser data removes it. Every sign-up panel carries a control that clears it too.

Who else handles your address

Kit runs the mailing list and sends the letter. Your address is stored on their systems, in the United States, under their own privacy policy. They are a processor acting on our instructions and do not use your address for their own purposes.

Cloudflare hosts the site and, like any web host, processes the requests your browser makes in order to serve pages and to block abuse.

Nobody else. We do not sell, rent, share or trade your address, and we do not hand it to anyone buying an audience.

Confirming, and leaving

Signing up is double opt-in: you are not added to the mailing list until you click the link in the confirmation email. Sign up and never confirm, and you are never sent anything.

Every issue carries an unsubscribe link at the foot. It works on the first click and needs no email to us and no reason given.

How long we keep it

Until you unsubscribe, or until you ask us to delete it. We do not keep a shadow copy of people who have left beyond what Kit retains to honour an unsubscribe.

Your rights

You can ask what we hold about you, ask for it corrected, ask for it deleted, or ask for a copy. Write to ordinarylivingnadeintentional@gmail.com and we will act on it. Since the record is one email address and a date, this is usually a very short conversation.

We are based in Kenya and operate under the Data Protection Act 2019. If you are in a jurisdiction with its own rules, those rights apply too and we will honour them.

Children

This site is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.

Changes

If this policy changes in substance, the date at the top changes with it. We will not quietly broaden what we collect.
